Objectives of the Webinar –

The objectives of the webinar are:-

To create awareness among participants regarding Ethical issue which may arise working capacity in their day to day work.
To create critical thinking for fair behavior in every walk of academic pursuits.
To find out ethical problem and identify their solution.

Brief Description of the Webinar –

It was decided by the pacific college of teacher’s education, Pacific University a webinar on “Professional Ethics for Academicians” should be proposed. Thus the IT cell has provided the Brochure and the registration of for participants according, E-mail were sent and also shared in whatsapp groups for wider publicity. We started receiving registration request till 15 June 2020. The IT cell provided us Registration data. Webinar link was generated and sent to the participants.

Following this, one day webinar was organized by Pacific College of Teacher’s Education a constituent unit of Pacific University on “Professional Ethics for Academicians” on 16-06-2020 from 10.00am to 11.00am. The webinar started with the moderator’s remark by Dr. N.K. Dashora, Retd. Director of Aishwrya Institute of Management, Udaipur. He had a vast teaching experience and administration experience of more than 50 years.

Dr. N.K. Dashora described the various facts of professional ethics in academic pursuits with various examples from different academic positions, such as a teachers, Principles, researchers etc.

Dr. K.S. Vyas Director of Pacific College of Teacher’s Education has encapsulated the outcome of the webinar and concluded the webinar with a vote of thanks. He expressed gratitude to all for their contribution.

There were 45 numbers of participants from different academic institutions including students, faculty members. The webinar ended with questions from.

Abstract of webinar with important point discussed:

The Learned speaker started his speech with the definition of ethics which is the part of moral philosophy and axiology. The three main components namely mataethics, General ethics and applied ethics were discussed with special reference to the need of the academicians. The speaker also distinguished between Denelogy, virtue, relative morality and consequential morality. The specific morality with different cultural values was also discussed. Mahatma Gandhi has out lined seven critical test were also linked with Professional ethics.

An institution must have moral values along with sence of responsibility, transparency, respect for an individual, institutional empowerment, the service to the nation and environmental leadership were also the key ingredients referred in the discussion.

The speaker specifically pointed different norms as a part of applied ethics for administrators, teachers and researchers. At the end he quoted Comenius oath.

Evaluation of discussion and feedback

Generally participants received the webinar positively and appreciated the practical examples provide by the presentations.

Recommendations

It has been suggested that on ethics issue is prominent point of discussion in academics circles. It can restore the lost glory of the teaching profession also such webinars are a close substitute of the extension lecture which cannot be held at present.
