Connecting the Dots: Cyber Laws, E-Commerce and the Unwary Consumer
Abstract of Webinar with important points discussed
Pacific School of Law, Pacific University has organized a Webinar on “Connecting the Dots: Cyber Laws, E-Commerce and the Unwary Consumer ” on 12th Sept 2020 (Saturday) from 11:30 a.m. The keynote speaker was Dr. Sumangla Rathore, Principal, Suyash College, Rajasthan, India & Adjunct Faculty Member, ICFAI Foundation of Higher Education, Hyderabad, India.
Dr. Rathore talked about legal aspects and frameworks of cyber laws, rights of consumers, frauds, and crimes in different categories namely individual, property, and government. She also defined how the ‘new era frauds’ take place and also discussed the prevention measures against these frauds. Some questions were dealt with accordingly namely ‘What government does and can do? , and how can the victims approach the legal cell? Who are liable to answer and who could provide help to the victims to minimize the frauds.
She also spoke on IT-Act-2000, which came into force on 17th Oct. 2000, consumer protection rules and the guidelines issued by different agencies to make people aware of these activities. She also addressed, how one can stop this type of activity?
Prof. (Dr.)Subhash Sharma, (Program Coordinator) shared his views and talked about how genuine people are trapped in cyber- crimes without knowing its repercussions. He further stated the importance of e-commerce that everyone should be well- versed with the knowledge about E-commerce and Cyber Laws to prevent activities. A positive step will help others in generating awareness. The participants gave their feedbacks from their point of view and shared their opinions. At the last, Ms. Shivangi Barola, who coordinated the meet offered the vote of thanks to the speaker and other members.
